Overview
Our private client team looks after some of the most personal matters a solicitor deals with: making sure your wishes are recorded properly, appointing people you trust to act for you, and guiding families through the administration of an estate after a death.
The team is led by Director James Black, with Senior Associate Solicitor Drew Yeoman and Accredited Paralegal Alison O'Hare.
How we can help
When someone dies, their estate has to be gathered in, debts and taxes settled and the remainder passed to those entitled to it. We support executors through each stage, including obtaining Confirmation, so the estate can be administered and distributed.
A Will sets out who inherits your estate and who will act as your executor. Without one, the rules of intestacy decide. We prepare new Wills and review existing ones when your circumstances change.
A Power of Attorney lets you choose someone you trust to manage your money and property, make welfare decisions, or both, if you become unable to do so yourself. We prepare the deed and arrange its registration with the Office of the Public Guardian.
Where an adult has lost capacity and no Power of Attorney is in place, a family member or carer can apply to the court for authority to act. We advise on whether an Intervention Order or a Guardianship Order is appropriate and handle the application.
